Why 500 Words?
I started a new novel a couple of months ago while putting the final touches on the Irish novel I’ve been working on for ... I don’t want to say how long (years!). The problem is, I keep tweaking my Irish novel, because that’s fun. I love playing with sentences, adding details to the world I’ve been building, and all the other aspects of editing and revising. Writing new material is harder.
But I need to keep moving forward, not endlessly tweak.
So I thought I’d start a Friday reckoning of my progress that week, and encourage other writers and artists to weigh in on their weeks, too.
My goal is to write 500 words each weekday. What was your goal this week? Did you meet it? My hope is that we can support each other.
Bonus
I’ll also include a writing prompt for weekend writing. It’s not Friday, but as this is my first post, I’ll post my first prompt now.
Writing Prompt: “She took the first step, which was ...”
Thanks for the invite, Martha! Can’t wait for your Irish novel:)
Sounds like fun, I'm in! I'm mainly working on a YA sci-fi these days that's currently at 33,323 words. I have no idea what my pace has been in terms of (new) words per day (much less what I'd like it to be) but I'll start sharing my word count progress each week and we'll see.
