Hello darkness
my old friend
Okay, I live in sunny California. Well, foggy California. But I love this time of year, when the sunshine makes a sudden shift backwards. Yesterday had a completely different feel at this time of day. It’ll take me about a week to get used to it.
Do you remember being a kid and making scary faces in the mirror trying to scare yourself, and it worked? Or was that only me? Now, though, I hate being scared. Won’t watch horror movies. Don’t like roller coasters. What happened?
But cozying up in a lighted home while outside the sky darkens—that’s different.
Add tea and a scone and a couple of squares of dark chocolate, and you have yourself a perfect November evening.
P.S. Cover reveal! For my Irish novel. Please make my editor happy and consider pre-ordering: https://regal-house-publishing.mybigcommerce.com/we-meet-apart/
P.P.S. Dark-colored birds that fly around without ever seeming to settle are said to be the souls of reincarnated evil-doers. If that’s true, we have a lot of reincarnated evil-doers on my street.
Weekend Writing Prompt: It wasn’t a shadow.

LOVE the cover, Martha! Gorgeous. Congrats! Your description of a perfect November evening would be perfect in Texas, too.
Writing prompt: It wasn’t a shadow. It was a chicken!
P.S. I had a dream over a decade ago that I was a kid again in the 60s, in the house I grew up in, home alone at night, and I heard a noise in the dark. No lights on, just shadows. And it was a chicken! True story!
Gorgeous cover and so excited to read this! And I too love this time of year.
